Broncos Backup Kolb Shines For Suspended Osweiler

The new look Denver Broncos kicked of their season in prime time without Rookie QB Brock Osweiler. The rookie was suspended week 1 for abusing the league's substance abuse policy. Pittsburgh tried mightily to keep up with Denver but could not gain anything on the ground.. Rashard Mendenhall had 8 carries for 0 yards the worst of his career thus far. Big Ben was forced to pass more than Coach SGT. would have liked (21-44, 324 yards, 2 TD-4 INT). Denver's secondary played like everyone had hyped it up to be led by Pro Bowl CB Champ Bailey (2 INT) & newly acquired Tracy Porter (2 sacks, INT)
they forced Roethlisberger to make many off throws some of which led to turnovers. Mike Wallace was on fire toasting Patrick Peterson for 5 receptions for 150 yards and a TD including a nice 60 yard reception. The Steelers D didn't play the run very well giving up yards to RBs Willis Mcgahee (19 carries, 113 yards) & Knowshon Moreno (5 carries, 36 yards) which gave Backup QB Kevin Kolb a chance to shine (14-25, 245 yards, 4 TD, 2 INT). Pittsburgh's Defense did have heart though.. LB Lawrence Timmons (9 tackles) Safety Ryan Clark (7 tackles) and CB Curtis Brown (2 INTs) give the steelers hope for next week.

What we learned (Broncos): we might have a QB controversy in Denver... Kolb or Osweiler?

What we learned (Steelers): This team needs its running backs to produce soon or it could be in serious trouble.
